“Experience the Legacy.”
Our elegant and masterfully renovated event hall is an enchanting place to create unforgettable memories.
The Harvey Dining Room opened in 1912 as s railroad-side Harvey Restaurant. Passenger orders were telegraphed in from an approaching train, then they had about twenty minutes to eat once seated at the horseshoe-shaped marble counter.
The Harvey Girls, the waitresses who lived upstairs, were efficient and charming, and the Fred Harvey Company came to fame, eventually operating dozens of restaurants and hotels along the railroad, and all the Santa Fe dining cars.
In the 50s, Slaton’s Santa Fe Depot was relocated to the Harvey House, where it operated as the passenger depot until the 80s.
When restoration began in the 1990s, the dining room was returned to its original splendor, golden walls and all, and has been serving as a community and private event center, since. The marble counter is no longer here, but the spirit of the Harvey Girl remains.
The Slaton Harvey House is situated next to the railroad track with a full covered patio, creating a unique and memorable setting.
